Responding to the changing face of paediatrics
Aims
- To provide opportunities for interactive multidisciplinary education and training to enhance and facilitate the rural clinicians ability to recognise and effectively manage the ill or injured infant and/or child in emergency and ongoing care, on a needs basis.
- To offer education in multimedia formats by expanding the current access to John Hunter Children’s Hospital Paediatric Grand Rounds to include streaming and an online portal.
- Facilitate the examination of the changing role of acute and community general paediatrics and encourage subspecialty outreach clinics
- Facilitate the implementation and ongoing reinforcement of the paediatric clinical practice guidelines into NCHN facilities
- Recommend models of care which address workforce issues and changing clinical practises
- Supporting rural facilities by developing early warning systems for the deteriorating child
Method
- Research models of care
- Audit current practice
- Map existing models of care within the NCHN and make recommendations on workforce issues and models of care
- Provide innovative multimedia education to address the evolving needs of clinicians
- Provide a tool and audit an early warning system for the Recognition of the deteriorating paediatric patient
Key performance indicators
The success of the project will be measured by:
- Evidence of completed mapping of general paediatric workforce
- Evidence of uptake and positive evaluations of education programs
- Evidence of implementation and audit of early warning system tool
