Mid North Coast - Counselling Skills
The aim of the Counselling Skills for Child and Family Health Nurses Project was to up skill Child and Family Health Nurses with the additional skills they require to undertake their role in implementing the Families First principles.
The project was originally planned to conduct the NSW Institute of Psychiatry Programme on the Mid North Coast, thereby increasing access to their nursing staff. The introduction of the Family Partnership Training within the Families First Framework has however, superseded the Counselling Skills for Child and Family Health Nurses and it was agreed to undertake the Family Partnership training on the Mid North Coast. The funding was used to provide the resources required to facilitate as many Child and Family Health Nurses attending this training as possible.
Two trainers were utilised to co-facilitate the Family Partnership training over a 5-week period, conducting two courses. The courses were held in Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour, and were made available to Child and Family Health Nurses, Child Counselors, Maternity staff and others interested. A total of 22 staff participated in the training across the two sites.
