New England - Education Day
On 30 March 2004, 21 participants attended a Paediatric Education Day convened by the Northern Child Health Network and held in Tamworth. The target audience was nurses who work with children in an acute care setting. The purpose of the study day was to identify and discuss key issues regarding the neurological assessment and management of paediatric patients and to implement accurate nursing interventions based on current information. The study day also promoted collaboration, networking, information exchange and peer support amongst nurses working in the Northern Child Health Network.
Key issues addressed in the study day included:
- Paediatric Neurology Issues
- Paediatric Neuro-observations: strengths, weaknesses and challenges
- Meningitis and Seizures
- Paediatric Surgery and wound management
- Paediatric Rural Outreach Program
The success of this project was measured by:
- Provision of an interactive learning environment to facilitate knowledge, information, skills enhancement and enhancing best practice amongst nurses who care for a sick child
- Examination and appraisal of best practice in relationship to pain assessment and management, burns assessment and management and wound management of the paediatric surgical patient
- Enhanced networking opportunities amongst nursing staff of the Northern Child health Network
