Hunter - 2-day workshops for rural practitioners

This project was commenced to aid the development of clinician skills and knowledge in the management of child health issues; practical scenario/case management-driven workshops to increase skills; facilitation of a process to enable clinicians to review their clinical practice in a supportive environment. Three workshops were conducted, each dealing with different topics of relevance to the participants. The workshops also provided the opportunity to discuss clinical practice guidelines.

Points per hour of continued education were applied for, which involved pre-questionnaires and post-test and evaluation forms for nurses attending. All participants were acquainted with DoH clinical guidelines and had opportunities to comment. Workshop topics included:

  • abdominal pain
  • fussy eaters
  • urinary tract infection
  • developmental assessment
  • ADHD, psychotropics and behaviour development
  • cardiac murmurs
  • asthma
